Hey guys, Jon Sasser from WFAA. Thanks for coming on with us this morning. Hope to have you back on tomorrow for an update. Is it alright for me to call same time tomorrow overnight?
Jon we would love to talk. You call us whenever we will be by the phone. Talk to you soon. We want to thank WFAA for the coverage of this event. It has been such a blessing. Thank you so much!
Three Men Break Their Own Guinness World Record
for Driving Through the 48 States in 97 Hours and 7 Minutes! On June 19, 2010, we drove across the Vermont state line, our 48th state, with a time of 97 hours and 7 minutes. The previous Guinness World Record for driving through the 48 states in the fastest time was 104 hours and 57 minutes, which we set in 1999. Jay Lowe (Colleyville TX) and Ted Jacobs (Mt. Pleasant TN) were the drivers. Andrew Shull (McKinney TX) was the navigator.
Who are we? Two-time Guinness Record holders. What are our existing records? (1) Driving through the 48 states in the fastest time of 97 hours and 7 minutes, and (2) Driving through the 48 states using the least amount of fuel, which received a full page spread in Guinness’ 1998 book.
Where was the starting line? The state line of Montana and Idaho.
What was our route? Now that’s top secret! What did we drive? A van. Are there rules? Yes. Guinness has established 10 rules for this event. Do we abide by these rules? YES, ALL 10 RULES TO THE LETTER.Have others tried to break our record? In the past three years there has been at least five attempts in which all fell short. In addition, these five teams have admitted in breaking a least three of the rules including having three drivers instead of two, not keeping logs, receiving speeding tickets and not have the necessary witnesses at the beginning and end of the trip.
Are we going to attempt the trip again? YES! Within a week of our setting the record at 97 hours, we came up with a new route and a new secret weapon that we believe will allow us to make the trip in 93 to 94 hours – while NOT speeding. We will most likely make the next trip during the summer of 2011.
